Brighton University visit

On the 20th of December I visited Brighton University to have a tour around their facilities. It was aimed at the 3d printers, CNC and laser cutters. We were greeted by Rob king who runs the workshops and over a nice coffee we discussed what we wanted to get out of the day.

We moved down into the expansive workshops

What struck me the most with the workshops appearance was how organised and clean they were. This facility was designed and used for the Student teachers learning Design and Technology subjects ready for teaching in Secondary schools.

We were shown examples of work that had been produced. this varied from making wooden moulds to plastic adjustable spanners. The technology really opens up possibilities for furniture making and furniture design.

The laser cutter has given me a few ideas how I could signature my furniture in the future.
